The Natural Reserve is located on the western slope of the Colombian Eastern Cordillera in San Vicente de Chucurí, department of Santander, near the Yariguíes mountains.
The Nature Reserve was created with the intention of preserving a sample of migratory bird habitats for the Blue-sky Warbler (Setophaga cerulea), the first reserve in South America established to protect a migratory bird.
The Reinita Cielo Azul ProAves Reserve is located 87 km from Bucaramanga (2 – 2.5 hours). The main entry to the reserve is from the delightful colonial town of San Vicente de Chucurí (30 minutes) by 4×4 car or Motorcycle Taxi, which you will find in the main park.
We suggest traveling from San Vicente de Chucurí to the ProAves Reinita Cielo Azul Reserve using a local jeep or motorcycle taxi due to the difficulty of the road.
